From L'Etoile at La Bastide-Puylaurent to Belvezet (18km).
With a car: Take the road D6 towards Mende via les Huttes, Masmejean, the Castle of Chabaleyret, Chabalier, Chasserades, the viaduct of Mirandol and les Chazeaux. (Google Itinerary)
With the train: La Bastide-Puylaurent to Belvezet (SNCF timetable).
From the railway station of Belvezet, go to the GR7 via the road on the right and when you reach the old house of the crossing keeper, take the dirt road on your left going downwards through
the pasture down to the old bridge over the Chassezac. Go back up through
the village des Chazeaux following the red and white markings. Chapel and ferradou. When you reach the ferradou, a sign will point towards le Moure de la Gardille. Go past the village and and find the pasture and the herds again. Cross the road D71 and start climbing the first slopes of le Moure de la Gardille. If you take a second look, you can
enjoy the view over the causse de Montbel. The GR7 goes up in zigzags through the forest. Follow carefully the markings which are sometimes far from each other due to the forest works. When you get
out of the forest, leave momentarily the GR on your left (when you reach the bois de Mirandol), and follow the fence up to the dismantled relay mast. At this point you are at the summit of le Moure
de la Gardille (1503 metres). Go to the cross to admire the panorama over the forest, the ancient abbey of Mercoire, Langogne and the impoundment of Naussac,
and on your left the causse of Monbel. Double back until the sign Mirandol and take a left on the GR7. Both the Chassezac and the Allier have their
spring on either side of this mountain. Follow the fence for 2km. Keep going more or less on the crest. Go past the Moure des Coufours. Spot the
white and red antenna on your right, in the middle of pasture and at the next intersection, leave the GR 7 behind and take the track on your right PR Valley and Gorges of the Allier. (Possibility to continue on the GR7 towards the hamlet and the stream of Le Fraisse until you reach La
Bastide-Puylaurent. By taking the PR, you will avoid the long descent to Le Fraisse in the forest, and the steep climb after the stream which allows you to reach the view point on the plateau of
Chambounet over the Mont Lozere). Take the PR on your right and go down until the bridge of Taillades (stream and impoundment). Go back up
the large dirt road and reach the GR70 Stevenson trail. Follow it on your left and go along the
plateau of Chambounet until La Mourade (picnic tables) and go back down slowly until the railway station of La Bastide-Puylaurent.
