From L'Etoile at La Bastide-Puylaurent to
Villefort (23km) .
With a car or a bike: take the road D906 towards Villefort via le col du Thort, Prevencheres and La Garde-Guerin. (Google Itinerary)
With the train: La Bastide-Puylaurent to Villefort (SNCF timetable).
Ormeau square (or Place de l'Ormeau) at Villefort, take the GR68 and GR72 (South) which follow together the road D901. At the railway bridge, take a left on the ancient roman way(GR700 Regordane Way). Then follow the GR44 going up the
street Chazalet. At the iron cross, take on the right the stair trail going firstly up, then down in the forest, and follow the road on the right going uphill. At a small summit, take the large path
going up on the left (GR44, red and white markings). Go on the left on the path going towards the radio tower (Chapelas Roc). At the
cross, follow the track on the right. It crosses a bare plateau and offers picturesque landscapes over the Cevennes. Stay on the main
path which passes near ancient bridges and go on the right of a sheepfold to go in the plain. The path then goes up towards la Font de Saint-Michel. Take the first path on the right between the high
rocks, and go down to Les Aydons. At some places can be seen some "calades" (an ancient cobblestone road), between the brooms and the live oaks. A mediterranean vegetation is present at this point.
The path becomes a little trail and arrives between the sweet chestnut trees, overlooking slightly Les Aydons. Take the trail on the left on the uplands of the village, leave a first path on the left
on a steep slope, a second one still on the left going on le Serre de La Tournelle, and continue straight on in the chestnut wood to overlook the gorges of the Chassezac and the Pied-de-Borne (a marked trail goes towards the village). The track goes around the
mountain and goes back on the left (large trail) towards Les Salces. The path passes over the village and goes slightly down in its direction. Take on the left a calade path. 400 m further take the
stairs on the left and leave the path under them (watering whole of Les Salces). This path is punctuated by rocks which are placed 8 feets from each other. Go up in zigzags. While climbing, a view
over the gorges will reveal itself. Find the trail going on the plateau des Balmelles. At la croix de Chapelas (panorama ocer the Ardeche), take a track on the right. After 100m., leave the path and
take a trail on the left which overlooks Villefort (view over the lake) which goes down in zigzags. Buy the topo-guide of the FFRP
