Laid back efficiency. Handslome rooms in an ageing but lovely house with a pleasant garden where the owner serves good food in large amounts. The honesty bar with a range of good beers at low prices sums up the friendly, communal atmosphere which expresses itself most around the long dining table at mealtimes.

Great food, outstanding value for money. Much the best of my overnight stops during 8 days on the GR®70. I had booked a bed in the dormitory, of which I was the sole occupant. Good showers etc., a pleasant garden, laundry facilities. However, the highlight was the five course dinner, with wine and including an excellent cheeseboard, eaten at a communal table with the other 15 guests. €50 for dinner, bed and breakfast - outstanding value for money!

Back to L'Etoile after two years it is a pleasure for Georges and I to find the gite and Philippe as always, nice and relaxed. The food is even better (and it was already very good). We were many and yet everything ran smoothly. Even the most feminist of us were happy to help out. In this atmosphere helping to clear the tables is a pleasure, not a chore.....thank you Philippe until next time ! Sol Villaceque, Nîmes, France

A most welcome lodge. Group of 4 on a walking Holiday stayed here for 2 nights at the end of June. rooms clean and basis, it's a walking lodge, not a 3 star hotel, we had 2 en-suite rooms, but there were other options at cheaper prices, they have a laundry, drying rooms, lounge areas, an honesty bar system. best of all is Philippe the Owner who speaks several languages, and excellent English, who advised us on what type of walks and even supplied us with maps and directions in English. Dinner is included in the price, and you will not go Hungary, soup, salad, mains, cheese, dessert, and wine on the table. We had booked 3 nights, but due to an injury, we only stayed 2, but Philippe did not charge us for the 3rd night. not a lot do at night, but after dinner, and a days walking you do not want much, recommend for walkers only, as its in a small village away from anything. would stay again if we went back to the area.

A pleasant stay in L'etoile Guest House. We arrived at L'Etoile in a rainy day, the warm atmosphere hit on us right away, the light music in the big dinning room with a cup of hot tea, took away all the exhaustions. Good food, nice people and surroundings made us relax. we talked a lot with the owner who is a very passionate person about what he is doing, impressive. the park is great in sunny days for a sunbath, unluckily not for us this time, but we must come back next time !

There are some places that are difficult to leave..... where on certain mornings the scent of warm bread lingers .... places , quite simply, where you feel good. I return to the gite L'Etoile after a week of hiking , creativity and napping in the fields of Lozere ! I return to the gite L'Etoile where each morning the sun pierces the windows ( even on rainy days! ), where each evening there is good humour and well being. It is a magical place : to rest ; succulent meals; friendliness. Thank you Philippe and also to all those wonderful people with whom I shared these few days. I look forward to some words / a text / a page ??? on this site from the " captain of the ship" who can tell us more about his gite better than anyone ... And if during your stay the weather is fine and you have the chance to sleep in the small cabin by the river, do not hesitate, you fall asleep with the sound of the water... and you wake up with the song of the birds. After, you are willing to face the world ! Me, I will return one day ! Sandra, Romont, Switzerland

Hello everyone. We spent 4 days at L'Etoile, a starting point for several very pleasant rambles. These are a few lines to describe our feelings on departing. As many reflect on this site we not only appreciate the welcome given by the "master of the house" but also the serenity and conviviality which emerges every evening when all known and unknown come together, whether after walking 25km, a journey into the causses with the car or a round trip by train to Langogne etc. Of course everyone is somewhat responsible for this, but Philippe knows very well how to create the conditions for dialogue with a little music or song taking place after a convivial meal. We would like to share with everyone two aspects we have perceived from this "one man show"; Philippe is a true entrepreneur, in the economic sense, and in addition has this gift of empathy towards his "clients" who in no time at all become like the people of "his" house, embraced by his very direct contact, his apparent joie de vivre and ease of communication, did you not get this feeling, and with the ease and calmness that he runs this gite irrespective of the number of guests. Of course we are on holiday, but frankly, Philippe you impressed us by your ability to organise so efficiently all aspects of "your business", that others should see you at work and maybe make some changes in their own lives. Secondly, you told us that your goal as a foreigner in this area was to be respected ( not necessarily integrated) by the inhabitants, traders , administrations etc. We believe that not only have you established yourself, but also, proved that integration is not a necessity , in order to succeed in your activities in this region, and that many could benefit from this line of approach . "Hats off to you". Thank you for such an energising holiday in every way. Michel and Christine, who exchanged ideas with you about their proposed bed & breakfast in Paris. My teenage sons and I had three days before joining our adventure holiday in the Ardeche, so I looked on the internet for place to stay in the French countryside. The quick response from L'Etoile and telephone call with Philippe assured me we had found the right place ! Our stay at L'Etoile then exceeded expectations. The boys (and myself) loved the home-cooked wholesome food, served in ample portions for hungry trekkers and cyclists. During evening meals we practiced our French in conversation with the other guests, who also practiced their English on us. We fully endorse the comments made by others regarding the special atmosphere at L'Etoile - the perfect antidote to commercialised, plastic 'holiday accommodation'. Philippe has created an environment based on trust and respect where you can enjoy humanity again - set in an idyllic area of natural beauty. Very highly recommended.
