When summer is in full swing and temperatures reach soaring heights, there's nothing better than escaping to a cool and peaceful place. That's exactly what I found during my one-week stay at L'Etoile Maison d'hôtes.
Located in the heart of the beautiful Lozère region between Margeride and Gévaudan, I arrived by train at La Bastide Saint Laurent les Bains station, which is just 300 meters away from L'Etoile. I was warmly welcomed by the owner who immediately made me feel comfortable. The building itself is a beautiful large holiday house built in 1926, surrounded by a big green garden along the Allier River.
My room was spacious and comfortable with understated decor that added an authentic and relaxing touch to my stay. The nights were cool and restful, even during heat waves as La Bastide-Puylaurent is situated at an altitude of 1000 meters.
The healthy and hearty meals are carefully prepared by Philippe the owner, showcasing local and seasonal produce. Dinner is served as table d'hôtes in the large dining room overlooking the garden. Breakfast consists of blueberry, raspberry and fig jams, homemade bread, blue or plain tommes cheese and Luc butter, cereals, fromage blanc, and apple juice from the Altier Valley.
During my stay, I had the opportunity to enjoy the surrounding nature through loop hikes. I also took a dip in the Borne river below the village of Saint Laurent les Bains.
Lastly, I want to highlight the friendly and welcoming atmosphere that pervades L'Etoile Maison d'hôtes. The moments spent around the table, exchanging with other travelers and the owner, will remain etched in my memory.
My one-week stay at L'Etoile was truly a gift. I was able to escape the summer heat while enjoying a cool, rich, and peaceful environment.
