Start at L'Etoile, cross the Allier on the little footbridge, walk by the city hall (mairie) and the post office, go up the little road (leave a cross on your right), and follow the road past the cemetery to the D906. cross the road and take the track right in front (GR®72 and GR®700 Regordane Way or Chemin St Gilles). At the end of the track, turn right on the ancient road leading to Villefort. Go past an abandoned little house and take a track on your right which takes you up to the D906.

Turn left and follow the road for 250 metres, then take a right towards Le Thort, taking the road C1 which goes by La Fromagerie du Dolmen on the right of the road. Be careful, after the dolmen you will find, on your left, a sign pointing left to a 30km hike with green markings; do not follow the sign and stay on the road. Leave the GR®72 on your left and follow the road C1 (towards Croix de Gabrio on the sign). At the next intersection, take a little track with the green markings on the left side of the road, in front of you. Follow it until you find the road again, cross it and take the path right in front. At the next fork, take the track on the left and go down in the valley of the Allier. Go through the tunnel under the railway, which links La Bastide Puylaurent to Mende via Chasserades, Belvezet and Allenc. Take the bridge over the allier and follow the track until you reach the road D6.

Take a right and after the bridge, take the first path on your left; the road will lead you inside the hamlet of Masmejean. Go through the hamlet and take the track towards Bois de Chambounet alongside the trees before the road; the small valey of Riou surrounded by hazel trees. The track has several hairpin turns and will go up to crest of Mourne of Gardille and the Plateau of Chambonnet. In a bend, you will find a arrow pointing to PR Plateau du Chambounnet. At the top, turn right and follow the markings of the GR®70, Stevenson trail, north until you reach La Bastide-Puylaurent. In the downhill slope, you will have a nice view over the abbey Notre Dame des Neiges (on the Ardeche side).
